What we truly and earnestly aspire to be, THAT in some sense we are. The mere aspiration, by changing the frame of the mind, for the moment realizes itself.

TANTIE TALK:

Darrel Brown - 16 years, 305 days old ... youngest ever male medallist
in World Athletic Championship history. And let we not forget dat he
is de 100 metres Junior World Champion AND U-18 World Record holder! De bwoy do we proud! Because he, Marc Burns, Ato Boldon and Jacey Harper not only get de 4x100 relay medal, but for de second time in as many races dey establish a new national record. Is 18 years now dat the championships in existence, but dis is de first time we ever make
a sprint relay finals. And, when yuh consider dat T&T had de 4x400
relay world record back in de early 60s yuh realise how tings real bad
wid athletics in dis town.

But hopefully things go improve sooner than later...all de new stadiums
dey build for de FIFA U-17 tournament in September come wid athletics
tracks and because dey spread out all over de country (even Tobago get
one!) it go mean more young people going to get a chance to use de
facilities, and not just as spectators! We getting all kinda zeppy
pointing de way to we sporting future, I jes hope the powers dat be
understand dem and make plans and provisions for de nex 3 or 4 set of
Olympics, World Cup and every other sporting event. Is high time dey
stop planning trips for officials wid a couple athletes tagging along
jes for appearance sake.

I hope de Government AND Private Enterprise do something constructive
instead of just naming a plane or a stadium after him! I sure he is
not de only youth with talent - athletic or otherwise - in La Horquetta
but we doh hear about dem at all...all we hear about is de ones who
"lorse dey way" and end up on de wrong side of de law. Perhaps now
somebody who could make a difference will put a hand and help point
de youths from all over T&T to where dey could see a future not only
for themselves but for Trinidad & Tobago.
