TANTIE
TALK: Ah hope allyuh remember dat Sunday coming (de 17th) is Father's Day! And ah hope allyuh faddas and dem tek some time to reflect on de example yuh supposed to be showing to yuh chirren. At a time when every time yuh open de papers all yuh seeing is more and more youths committing some ah de most heinious crimes, ah tink we need to take a chek on what we young people being exposed to and getting involved in. When ah 15 year ole could stab a 17 year ole over a boy, tings real bad in we society and all ah we have to tek some ah de blame. Is like dey eh have enough activities fuh we chirren to take part in, so dey jes doing dey own ting. Yuh know de ole saying "De Devil finds work for idle hands" .. and yuh know is only evil wuk he does put down. But dey have plenty avenues fuh de youth to explore and examples to follow in sport and especially in culture. We have plenty young artistes in every field... from theatre to fine arts to music... and besides being occupied, dey could make a very decent living and promote dey country via dey art form. Jes dis past week(end), we had Sheldon Blackman and the Love Circle carrying on in the tradition of the father, as well as the Kilimanjaro mokojumbie troup who continue to keep this art form alive and are now achieving the recognition of their peers internationally as evidenced by their performance with Scarabeus (aerial dancers/stilt performers) at the old tracking station at Chaguaramas - just 2 examples of where and how our youth should be channeling their energies... ...but then we have Brian and Russell and Dwight, seemingly bent on throwing away all the opportunity and privilege they have gained through their hard work for 'tinsel and thrash', forgetting dat dey are exemplars to a generation of youth... and dat they too are, or will be fathers themselves. HAPPY FATHER'S DAY from TriniDiary and Opus Networx! |
