TANTIE TALK:

What makes a coalition more dan jes an accommodation? Is the grouping FOR sumting/anyting? Or are dey jes 'against'? What do de PNM and de 'Gang-of-4-minus-1' have in common other dan dey 'accommodation'? What binds de Northern Coalition in Afganistan together? And exactly what does de US/UK team have in common wid its pardners in 'America's New War'.

De answer to all de above is unfortunately not much. De little common ground dat exists seems to be based on common hatred for a third party. What is it in human nature dat will bring opposing views together not to solve or reconcile their differences, but to eliminate another? In de local scenario, de official Opposition has somewhere between very little and no love for any members of the Government especially de 'ones' dey jumping into bed wid. What makes either party feel dat anyting positive can come of their dalliance? Because it bong to be very short... and not too sweet either.

And on de odder side of de world, de 'allies', especially de kith and kin US-UK have not learnt de lessons which history so regularly repeats for dem. Dey once more come together wid people dey have never taken de time to know and therefore do not understand. Why is it felt, assumed that 2000+ years of history, tradition and culture can be thrown out de door because it does not mesh wid prevailing 'values' of de world. We keep forgetting dat dese peoples whose civilisations existed and flourished before de concept had begun to gel in what we know as de western world.

Even here in T&T, ("corrupt, poverty stricken, sub-class of society" we may be in de eyes of some) we forget, and in fact deny, our proud heritage in being descendants of 3 civilisations that were going strong for several centuries, even while those who were to bring us here were running around in woad and animal skins. Dey have come a long way since then, as have we all. But yet, as humans, we seem to love leaving behind de humanity and common traits we all share in favour of furthering de divide.

In the immortal words of Rodney King, "Can't we all just get along?"
