Tantie head wus so hot last week wid all dat was happening dat ah did
forget to mention de message board dat de Trinidad Express did set up fuh people to find out about dey friends and family. De Express did real come good wid dat, making sure people could still communicate when de phone lines was jam up solid. Now, is time fuh talk! Tantie was jes as shocked and horrified as de
rest of de world when dis thing was happening...it was so boldfaced
that plenty people really thought it was a movie at first, before de
reality did sink in. But, after the initial feelings of horror at
what was unfolding before yuh eyes, it all too soon did begin to be
just a nex other news story. Yes, I know...allyuh saying dat Tantie
real gorn orf, but dis is the reality of the situation. It was for
America a wakeup call: "Welcome to the real world". Unfortunately
for humanity dis is now a way of life in all too many parts of de
world, and no amount of ranting, railing and brandishing of sabres
going to end de cycle anytime soon.
Rushing out and bombing de living daylights out of Afghanistan or
whatever country Bush & Co feel "harbouring terrorists" just going
to create more of the same - it come like trying to get rid of a
blob of mercury wid a hammer, de more yuh hit it, de more it spread
out in lil pieces dat does roll back and join up! Nobody saying dat
yuh doh do nutting, but yuh have to look at what is really de problem.
No amount of short term plastering over de sore go help it get better.
All over de world America does be arrogantly assuming dat dey know
better than everybody else how to run de world. De refrain of "Yankee
go home" doh be heard so loudly these days, but de feeling still there.
When after de fiasco dat was Vietnam dey shoulda take stock and try to
unnerstan why it is dey wasn't wanted, dey instead went running full
pelt to give money, training and weaponry to anybody who did jump up
and say dey doh like Communist...in Chile de ELECTED president did get
overthrow and killed and we know what happen to dem after dat.
30+ years later and the book ent closed yet.
But where dey really mess up bad was feeling dat dey could play de same
game wid de warrior tribes an dem in Afghanistan. Dey didn' really take
on de old Arab saying dat "the enemy of my enemy is my friend"...what
dey shoulda remember is dat when you help dem get rid of one enemy, and
YOU is de nex enemy yuh bound to know crapaud smoke yuh pipe. And not
only dat, but once de Soviets had recognise dat Afghanistan was their
Vietnam and buss it, de support for de 'freedom fighters' did dry up
quicker dan drizzle on a hot galvanise roof and dey had was to fight on
dey own for 3 more years before dey was victorious. Dey didn' forget
dat at all and now nearly two decades later sadly, de chickens have come
home to roost. All of dis woulda probably never happen if it wasn' for
de dotish policy of unconditionally supporting Israel no matter what.
When innocent citizens, especially women and children are killed,
calling it "collateral damage" doesn't make it any less offensive to
humanity than a freedom fighter/terrorist using the weapons at his
disposal to the same end. Whether it's a tank, F-16, Smart Bomb or a
really intelligent bomb loaded with 50,000 gallons of jet fuel, it's
all the same. They are weapons doing what they do best - killing people.
We must NEVER forget that War is Hell...
