Reader Comments
Tantie,
Thanks so much for some reasonable comment on this madness - about the
only comforting thing right now is to know that no everyone supports
more death and carnage.

Subject: Diatribe on US policy re Israel
please! At least get your facts right before subjecting us to your
uninformed and insensitive comments at a time like this.
I guess when Abu Bakr and his gang or some other militant group tries
their next shot here in T&T Tantie will not wish to have our friends
from up north intervene, right? After all, we don't want them meddling
in our business.
Perhaps you should ask all the millions of people around the world who
have the USA (and other freedom loving nations) to thank for their
democracy, what they think.

Tantie,
This the best article you'd have ever written and I'm in total agreement
with your views, as harsh as they might sound. Keep up the good work.

Whoever Tantie is should remember the Arabs attacked Israel first when
that country was formed. And every Arab/Israel war was started by the
Arabs. So, who would you support, the aggressors or the defenders? Jews
don't support a holy war, Jesus never attacked anyone, but Muhammad "
the prophet" has a history replete with bloodshed of his enemies.
Jihad means reforming the earth to Islam by the use of armed forces.
Thou shalt not kill?
Six million Jews, not Arabs, were killed by Hitler.
OK, so the Jews have economic and political clout. Well, this is
because they worked hard, not because they inherited it.
Tantie would feel differently if he/she had a close relative cremated
when the jet hit.

Hey "Tantie",
I was wondering who would be the first to resurrect the tired quip
equating terrorists with freedom fighters. Sadly, it was you.
I know that glibness is your stock-in-trade, but do you really think
that this statement is defensible?
Similarly, your accompanying article was morally flaccid. Referring to
this major terrorist act in terms of "way-of-life", "cycle of violence",
"wakeup call" and similar non-judgmental psychobabble was shallow and
dismissive. I must ask, do you have any appreciation that this was an
EVIL act, a WRONG act? I see little indication of it in your article.
This omission, along with your litany of criticisms against the US,
suggests that you feel the attack was somehow justified...?
Well, I'm off to look at the "planetary ethics day" site you advertised.
Perhaps you should look at it also...

Excellent synopsis ..much better than all that mumbo jumbo sabre
rattling that is on the American News daily. America has forgotten its
Vietnam .. the "mercury" will come back to haunt and hunt them and ...
they must have forgetten that mercury is poisonous.

Tantie Talk
Dear Tantie,
I am a faithful reader of your e-mail, but after reading your e-mail of
September 17 on the American terrorist situation, I totally disagree
with you when you say after the initial feelings of horror it became
just another news story. There is still a feeling of horror and
trepidation at the events that occurred where more than 5,000 innocent
lives were lost, not of only Americans, but of people all over the
world. Anyone or any country at the top is usually disliked or alone.
Yes, they have made mistakes in the past but that is no reason for the
innocent loss of lives. The Israelites are God's chosen people and
America has a right to support them and whoever they wish.
I believe that your "Tantie Talk" column was HELL ....

Subject: USA
so what you are saying is not to retaliate against the people who did
this to the Americans....to let it just go. Sorry but America will not
tolerate this.......no matter who's Country was attacked. Why is it
everytime another Country is in need of help , for a natural disaster,
attack, or internal upheaveal they call on the USA? The USA is always
one of the first peoples to come to the aide of others...now you are
condemning them for this. Yes they have made their mistakes, just as any
Country or persons have, but let us not condemn them, especially now,
they need the support of all nations. My wife is an American and is
proud of her Country and heritage, how can you sit in judgement of one
Country when Trinidad sits there and lets "Foreign Investors" take over
our Country. In your last newsletter you stated Foreig Investors want to
buy Carnival....this is our heritage and our own people are willing to
sell it...how can you sell that which belongs to all the people of
Trinidad and for what...the "almighty dollar". So now tell me who is
giving up their Country......

Subject: War on Terrorism
To The Editor:
Although I typically enjoy receiving the weekly editions of "Tantie",
I did not appreciate your commentary about America's planned response
to the barbaric acts of last week. At this point we do not fully know
what that response will be, only that it will hopefully be effective
for everyone's sake. The attitude and opinions you expressed seem to be
a pervasive one here. Apparently, a lot of people just don't seem to
get it.
Perhaps it is because your country has never really had to fight a war
to defend your freedom and everything that it stands for. At any rate,
Americans are solidly behind their country and its leaders. Since
there are many Americans here, as well as American interests, I would
hope that you and the rest of the media are more sensitve of that fact
and report in the responsible manner that this situation calls for.
