TANTIE TALK:
So, is when dey coming for yuh Tantie? Nah, not de kidnappers...is de Information Control Officers who seem to have taken up residence on
Maraval Road. Now dis ent de first time de thing come up, never mind how conveniently people does forget about what used to go on when their
favourite 'politicos' was around...it was going on from de first day a newspaper get printed in T&T and it go still be going on long after de
lil chirren who ent have a worry in de world today grow up and stop giving a damn about all de worries dey shoulda never take on.
What I cyant unnerstan is what really cause de thing to come to de surface again...is because de 'substantive head of news' was on holiday and de
not so substantive head decide to make a play? Or is REALLY because de substantive head was away dat somebody decide to see if dey could play wid
the not so substantive head's head? Is a constant fun and games in did town, except dey does be playing games wid serious things and when dey
should be laughing at demselves dey want to be more serious than a judge passing de death
sentence. When a former Minister of Information could say because de country ent have no "functioning parliment where MP's can
express themselves, the media become the singularly most effective medium for public debate" and then say he ent answering a reporter's question (as
to if de same kinda thing used to go on when his side was batting) because he side
boycotting de reporter's paper, something more than slightly askew in dis town. And is why yuh ask dey ent have no "functioning
parliment"...ent is he side self dat say dey ent playing de game and want
to take dey ball home?
Yuh gotta love dis place we call sweet T&T yes, because at de end of de month yuh go see all man jack, of all colour, creed and class jumping up
and having a ball when Independence and de Great Race weekend come round...and then is back to de squabbling till de next fete...
Life in de Tropics real sweet yes.
