So, is 40 years of independence we suppose to be observing, commemorating, even celebrating...yeah right!! What kind of country we shaping up to be
whe we 'leaders' displaying all de maturity of a spoilt 6 year old and we as a nation doh have independence of spirit and self awareness enough to
tell de US Ambassador exactly where to get off.
If it was a Trini Ambassador in Washington making dem kinda dotish statements bout wanting to buy Massachusetts Avenue, dey woulda want to
send him packing long time...but any how, enough of he. We reach 10 years short of a half centuary of Independence and yet it seem we still where
we was in 1962. Other than a few names and faces who no longer wid us, is a straight case of 'plus ca change' when we look at the political
situation, and it affecting all other areas of life. We never stop to think if we did get we act together, we might have a first rate medical
facility at Mt. Hope and it might have been staffed with doctors who wouldn't be having to resort to sickouts to get a decent salary, and
we coulda get decent health care at a reasonable cost...if we politicos had had de testicular fortitude to trade with Cuba, long time we woulda
have plenty experienced doctors here helping out de situation. Instead of having to go to Cuba, Patos coulda do he surgery right here in T&T
wid de selfsame expertise which woulda get pass on to we doctors. And if Bas had do he surgery here, he wouldn' now be be having to dodge no
setta awkward questions about who account it is and who did or didn't know.
The same thing wid de Police, what happen wid de Community Police programme? IT was all hot and sweaty years ago wid pictures of Police on
dey motorbike helping grannies and chirren to cross de roads...like de bikes lorse or what? Or is just dat photo-op whey gone cold? All very
well and good buying a setta shiny new cars, but I hope dey bring people to not only teach dem police how to service de cars but how to drive dem!
All de criminals know dey could get away because de police ent moving from de station at all, so I hope dat wid all de new cars dey go be out not only
looking flash for de women, but making a difference in de communities, showing de youth dey doh have to be dependant on nobody but demselves.
If we doh startwid de youths from early we ent go be in buddow when de 50 years roll around...but maybe dat is de way we like it, and yuh never know
in 10 years time Trinidad might just consist of Marli St. or whatever other streets dey didn' feel like buying.
Guard yuh Independence T&T, and enjoy de day's activities wherever yuh be.

NICE ONE TANTIE
//T&T
I think with statements like that, the man should be removed as the head of
TUCO. He is not only going to kill the art form, but he is also going to kill
the regional unity being grown now. We are all dependent on one another.
//USA
Sometimes I dos real wonder what going on in T&T we. De news coming
out of de island does make meh want to cry cause I love meh sweet T&T so
much. Yuh column does give meh hope because I know dat some people still
tinking and maybe one day we politicos go get it right. I will still
keep on praying. Keep de writing going.
//USA
Holding up traffic on the road...tell meh all about it! Dat is de job of de
Police not ah Civilian who not even in uniform. Yuh sure Denyse and Rick was
not play-acting on de stage? Great tuh hear Kaiso from some of the odder
Islands...it kinda spices tings
up a bit...don yuh think Tant's?
//UK
I soooooooooo glad dat you decide tuh acknowledge jus' how dotish de T&T
vs BIM situation really is. But let me tell you something, were it not
for the presence of the Bajan artistes and those from some of the other
islands, the soca offerings that we had to "endure" over the past 7
years from MY people were abyssmal. I am still in shock at Leggerton's
comments. The saying should really be "insularity breeds
contempt"! Let these fellas sit back and watch at the proliferation
of reggae artistes who are making it to the world stage; that there is a
"Best Dancehall/Reggae
recording" category at the Grammy's; that for the last 2 years, every hip
hop artiste wanted Shaggy to appear on their CD. Is there ANY T&T
soca act that can boast that? Anyhow.......yuh could tell how loud and
long I steups when I heard Protector's and Denyse's cries.

I SHUDDA WRITE AND TEL YUH WHAT A GREAT ARTICLE LAST WEEK WAS - HOW YUH
SO SMART SO! AND THIS WEEK GREAT AGAIN. YUH REALLY DOES MAKE SENSE. KEEP UP
THE GOOD WUK AND GOD BLESS.
