Tantie Talk
Well yes, I did had was to tek a lil break to get into de Christmas thing.
Yuh know how it does be when yuh know yuh ent no spring chicken again...
yuh does have to add on plenty extra time to get de same things done!
So, wid de fus setta things done make (and nearly finish arredy!) yuh Tants
could get back to de Talk.
Dese days is like people picking mih brains every time I decide on a topic,
but I ent really mind nuh...it mean dat issues getting discuss and dat
could only be a good thing. And in dat light, I have to piggyback on de
article by mih good pards Dr. David Bratt in today's Guardian where he
talking real sense about de toys we allowing we chirren to play with...it
all very well and good for dem folks up north to give dey chirren 'toys'
dat fit in wid de so called lifestyle and culture dey have, but is a nex
thing again when we jes drop dem on we chirren who ent part of dat (never
mind de indoctrinating dey getting from cable TV) and we vex when we cyant
unnerstan' why dey behaving 'a-how'. He mention a toy "apparently based on
the realities of life in some parts of Iraq" dat have bombed out building
wid mashup furniture etc...not to mention de toy machine gun, rocket
launcher and explosives dat also in de set. Now dat might be de hottest
thing in de USA what wid Dubya flexing he armed forces, but is what dat
have to do wid we? We was damn near in a panic las' week when a local
'terrorist' was supposedly plotting all kinda mayhem in support of he
bretheren who Dubya plotting all kinda mayhem against. I wonder if de toy
company dat produce "Forward Command Post" have de balls to produce
"September 11 - Final Flight" as well. Dey bong to make loud donzai in de
Middle East and de Philippines and Indonesia.
Now I know I bong to mus' get all kinda 'comments' about dat last idea, but
if yuh producing one why not de other? Why we producing dem at all??? If
we want we chirren to be living together wid others who do have de same
beliefs, culture, religion...we cyant be celebrating/commerating hatred and
acts of violence by ANY human being against ANY other. It's dat simple.
So, to all you parents, aunties, uncles & even grandparents when yuh
reaching for dat toy, stop and THINK...de choice(s) you make might jes end
up affecting yuh chirren's chirren and grandchirren too.

Thank you once again. And I look forward to more next week. Send me some
of the Christmas goodies via e-mail I will imagine the great taste. I miss
my parang so much. My grandparents were deep into parang, being first
from Venezuela then from Rampanalgas and Matura and Arima and I think some
are in Barataria now..well such is life. That was real parang, not like
today, I mean we would go to the country and enjoy the old folks with
their cuatro and shac shac going from house to house drinking whatever and
singing the real parang songs. What fun. I remember my uncle in August
vacation getting his calabash and jumbie beads ready to make his shac shac
for the season.
