Tantie Talk

Is what happen wid de caring and sharing dat suppose to be going on at dis time of year? Is like we so get accustom to NOT doing it all de res' of de year dat we ent boddering wid it at all again. Tings looking real bleak in trute for poor T&T...we finally manage to break de cycle at we 3rd A.G.E., but before we even done settle down good to ready we self for de Christmas and Carnival, is a whole setta violence and killing going on in de place.

Who is to blame is nobody but we - de citizens of T&T who letting de situation get outta hand. What we ent realise is dat is de little tings we does be doing all de time dat now buildup and explo' in we face. Everybody want to know how it is we get so lawless, but de ent stop to think jes how many times de did break de speed limit, all dem red light and did park dey car wherever dey feel. When yuh check on all dem lil things dat 'ent nutting much' yuh bong to see jes how little regard we, as a nation, have for laws and authority. So when all de adults doing what dey want when dey want, is who it have to tell de youths dat doing what dey seeing and following wrong? When is not only 'in yuh face' crime dat running rampant but we seeing corruption and bobol on a scale dat difficult do come to terms wid (and it even look like we have insider trading in we lil pissin' tail Stock Exchange to boot), yuh have to wonder if it have any kinda hope for dis place!

If everybody try in dey own way to help not jes demselves but dey neighbor (in de broadest possible sense of de word), tings bong to mus' improve. We could take example from de Lydians wid dey concert for de disadvantaged. All we need to do is jes give a little, especially when and where it not expected and would mean a lot...and on dat note, a lil someting dat did drop in mih mailbox de odder day for allyuh to enjoy.

A Woman's Version of the Night Before Christmas

Author Unknown

Twas the night before Christmas and all through the kitchen;
I was cooking and baking and moanin' and bitchin'.
I've been here for hours, I can't stop to rest.
This room's a disaster, just look at this mess!
Tomorrow I've got thirty people to feed.
They expect all the trimmings. Who cares what I need!
My feet are both blistered, I've got cramps in my legs.
The cat just knocked over a bowl full of eggs.
There's a knock at the door and the telephone's ringing.
Frosting drips on the counter as the microwave's dinging.
Two pies in the oven, dessert's almost done;
My cookbook is soiled with butter and crumbs.
I've had all I can stand, I can't take anymore;
Then in walks my husband, spilling rum on the floor.
He weaves and he wobbles, his balance unsteady;
then grins as he chuckles "The egg nog is ready!"
He looks all around and with total regret,
says, "What's taking so long....aren't you through in here yet?"
As quick as a flash I reach for a knife;
He loses an earlobe; I wanted his life!
He flees from the room in terror and pain
and screams, "MY GOD WOMAN, YOU'RE GOING INSANE!!"
Now what was I doing, and what is that smell?
Oh darn it's the pies! They're burned all to hell!
I hate to admit when I make a mistake,
but I put them on BROIL instead of on BAKE.
What else can go wrong? Is there still more ahead?
If this is good living, I'd rather be dead.
Lord, don't get me wrong, I love holidays;
It just leaves me exhausted, all shaky and dazed.
But I promise you one thing, If I live 'til next year,
You won't find me pulling my hair out in here.
I'll hire a maid, a cook, and a waiter;
and if that doesn't work, I'LL HAVE IT ALL CATERED
