TANTIE TALK:
Allyuh feeling de season yet? Tantie ent know if is jes de short season, but I ketching mih tail to get into de thing dis year. And de situation not getting any help at all from de bands and de music dey playing either. So far Tantie did checkout 3 fetes - QRC, Flour Mills and Bishops. From what I see, de music dat have people moving is from 2-3 years ago...again yuh could say is de short season and people ent know de tunes, but really and truly dey know de tunes because is de SAME thing playing over and over with a few words passing deyself off as lyrics dat changing every now and den.

Is how much more instruction we coud get/take? Dem feel because dey looking at de young gyuls in dey lil pice of nuttin clothes dat is a gym class dey running? One setta fast, fast pace and 'hand in de air', 'move lef, move back' flying past when yuh want to be coasting a lil lime and supping a nice drink while taking in de ole talk and maccoing who wearing what on dey body and who on dey arm. Tants like to shake up de body lil bit jes like everyone else, but de way dat de music going, de only Rest yuh go get in de fetes is In Peace - it look like is only when somebody drop down dead dey go take notice.

But wid all dat, I did still enjoy mihself in de fetes, once yuh have yuh Squeeze and some nice friends, a good lime done start. Both QRC & Bishops was good limes, plenty food and drink and dey still have space to move about widout feeling like yuh down Charlotte St. on Christmas Eve...I only hope dey keep it jes so and doh get greedy and try packing people in. Dat is what yuh have Flour Mills & WASA fete for...when yuh wants to try and play young, yuh only have to go jam wid de masses to know exactly jes how young yuh are - NOT! It real amazing to see de variations of people and outfits - 'impossible bodies in even more impossible outfits'. But I give dem full marks for sheer enjoyment, dem does take dey feting seriously! Yuh know dat when dem come through de gate all dey problems get leave back onetime, yuh could see de faces change as dey reach in de fete and PAHR-TAY start.

Dat is de way things suppose to be in dis place, we keep forgetting jes who we be and instead we trying hell hard to be what we are not and will never be. Yes we have a 'Carnival Mentality', and we should be damn proud of it. When yuh consider the volume of work that gets done at Carnival time, we should definitely encourage de mentality that promotes volunteerism and co-operation for what we believe in, and are proud of as OURS...and we need to have it all year round. Instead of just paying fleeting visits to de Mas Camps and Panyards once a year, all our politicians and other leaders should have to work a minimum of one week in dem while doing dey 'other wuk' jes like de rest of T&T.

Mybe then dey could understand what de words Discipline, Tolerance and Production really mean.
