TANTIE TALK:

I ent know who it is first come up with this list, but its been floating around a while...so, even if yuh have seen it before, take the time to read it again and reminisce...better yet, print it and put it on yuh wall so when things going wrong yuh could have a quick pick-me-up.

THINGS MY TRINI MOTHER TAUGHT ME:

1. My Mother taught me about ANTICIPATION.
"Chile, just wait till we get home."
2. My Mother taught me about RECEIVING.
"Yuh go get ah good cut ass when we get home!"
3. My Mother taught me to MEET A CHALLENGE.
"What de @$*% yuh thinkin bout'? Answer mih when ah talking to you...Look chile, doh talk back to me!"
4. My Mother taught me CONSEQUENCES.
"If yuh run across de road an' ah car lick yuh dong, ah goin' kill yuh wid licks."
5. My Mother taught me THE VALUE OF EDUCATION.
"If yuh doh go to school, yuh go pick up garbage on de street."
6. My Mother taught me HUMOR.
"If yuh doh eat food, breeze go blow yuh 'way."
7. My Mother taught me how to BECOME AN ADULT.
"Come an' tek yuh licks' like ah man."
9. My Mother taught me about SEX.
"Yuh feel yuh drop from de sky?"
10. My Mother taught me about GENETICS.
"Yuh JES like yuh fadda."
11. My Mother taught me about WISDOM OF AGE.
"When yuh get to be as ole' as me, yuh go understan'."
12. And my all time favorite... JUSTICE.
"One day when yuh have children, a hope dey treat yuh de same way."

But above all else yuh know what it is she taught? How a mother's love is totally, completely, and unequivocally UNCONDITIONAL. It was more often than not dosed out as 'tough love' via a hairbrush, clothes hanger or shoe, but no matter what we did do it was always there. And that my friends is what does really make de difference between today's youth(s) and when we was their age. We had not one, but a street or village FULL of mothers ready willing and able to love, nurture and cut we ass when necessary. Where IS the extended family these days? Who passing on de values to de nation's youth?

Happy Mother's Day to all mothers and thank you for being there.
