Tantie Talk

So, allyuh ready for de main event? Yuh get plenty time to warm-up properly dis year, so yuh cyant complain on de road at all. In fact tings seem to be more than jes warm of late, not only in T&T but de world at large.

It doh seem to matter where yuh look is a whole setta guffing up going on, and wid dat, nobody ent sure what go be happening next and dey 'fraid to go anywhere...and it worse if dey decide to look up de 'travel advisory' fuh where dey was planning to go. Yuh ever read dem thing? What people doh unnerstan' is dem thing ALWAYS dere...is jes dat sometimes dey does get update lil regular if things hotting up in a particular country, which is what did happen to T&T, but as usual people here did get all workup because dey feel it was a new, special something dat did get issue.

An' wid dat outta de way, is now time fuh de Tantie Travel Advisory.

Trinidad and Tobago
Carnival 2003 Update

SUMMARY
Most of de time visits to T&T it go be trouble free, but dat doh mean yuh mus get on dotish an' not walk wid yuh common sense. As fuh de ole talk 'bout "terror threat" yuh likely to be in more danger from Machel & Xtatik than any Muslim Fanatic.

On de Road
As long as yuh doh do anything too XSessive yuh go be OK...never mind de ads fuh products dat want yuh to do jes dat. When yuh driving remember to drive on de right side of de road...NOT de right-hand side of de road. Most of de roads have names an' de one way streets have signs...but, it have one street dat have no way, no how, except after hours and on weekends but if I tell yuh where it is de people controlling de street might feel I compromising security and wonder if I is Tantie bin Laden.

Seeing de Light
Try to avoid dark and lonely places...yuh might jes endup wid some strange bedfellows or even a politician or two. Doh take on de 'instructions' dat coming wid de music...yuh might ketch yuhself on a murder charge, an yuh ent go be able to afford no lawyer after paying for yuh genuine, authentic, Trini made-in-china-bikini-dat-want-to-be-a-costume-when-it-grow-up.

Showtime
Doh go to any Carnival Show an' expect it to start on time, doh feel dat jes because yuh have a ticket AND it have a number yuh go get a seat...if yuh want one, get in de place early and defend yuh seat. An' if yuh get comfy in yuh seat I hope yuh could be comfy wid de results too, because dem judges does defy logic all how...is like dem was running de last US election.

Pharmaceuticals
Doh be a mook and go looking to buy spliffs...jes walk dong de road while breathing deep, yuh go save yuh money and stay outta jail. If is grass yuh want, yuh could still find some in de Savannah...and yuh wouldn' even have to dig up de CJ Parkway.

Conclusion
Jes like anywhere else in de world T&T go be as nice as you make it. If yuh come out to look for de worse we have, yuh go find it. If yuh want to come, "lime. wine and have a good time" playing yuh mas, we only too glad to help yuh enjoy yuhself. At least we do have no engine-dropping trains, and we still ent charging for we traffic congestion. And when we trying to 'mash up de place', and hot things up most of us doh burn it to de ground along wid de audience...yet. We still could live and let live, we still believe in innocent until proven guilty...and we doh need to drown yuh to prove yuh really wan't a witch.

We going to have a whole setta ole noise and bacchanal in de place over de nex week, but when WE dust settle, we go be hopefully still living in peace and not watching WWIII on TV.

BACKCHAT: Issue 7

What's this I'm hearing about the song by Wanksie calling for action against gays and lesbians? I don't know what the situation is like in Antigua with regards to attitudes towards homosexuals but I know Trinidad is better than that. We have a gay community that supplies some of the best of Carnival. Should we really be supporting a foreign artiste that is
insulting some of our best and brightest?
