Tantie Talk

Is a good ting nex Sunday is Mother's Day oui...de way tings going it have plenty mothers go be holding dey belly and bawling dong de place when dey start to remember dey chirren come Sunday. Yuh ent see how many young people getting dey life cut short dese days? From banditry to road deaths to medical 'incidents', (and wid a whole setta plain stupidity in between to boot) is like a day yuh cyant pass widout we seeing a few more 'making de papers'.

What is de story? Is where T&T heading? We 'elders' ent doing no great job wid de country, but dat ent news to nobody...de real news is dat we really ent seeing no young people who look like dey give a damn 'bout T&T. Yes, we have we athletes and musicians and artists, but when yuh looking to see who go be running de country in de nex decade or so yuh only seeing ghosts, reflections and shadows of de politicos past and present who have we in de mess we still calling Sweet T&T. Yuh hearing 'bout 'community leaders', but when yuh check who dey talking 'bout yuh has to wonder what kinda communities we go end up having in dis country. De picture de media painting is jes a scale dong version of de way de whole country going (if yuh wants fancy - a microcosm) wid de powers dat be keeping dey bwoys close wid 'jobs' and privilege while dey strutting 'bout helping de needy...jes doh ask too many questions 'bout how dey could afford to do it. Gov't Officials or Community Leaders, it doh matter what name yuh call it, is same khaki pants...but de plebs who getting grind up to fuel de machinery cyant see de forest for de 2-3 leaves dropping from de trees. De whole nation need some good mothering - de kind we did grow up on, dat was known as "tough love". We did all get a good cutarse when and where necessary, but at de same time we did know exactly why it was really hurting dem more than it was hurting us...de emotional pain go always hurt longer and harder than physical. We was very aware of de laws/rules dat was laid dong, because we know somebody was going to enforce dem...if it wasn' de neighbour, it was yuh Nenen, Tantie or any one of de extended family (dat did make up de REAL communities dey had longtime) who bong to mus' ketch yuh in de act. If we could only get dem longtime communities back on track, when everybody used to watch out for dey neighbour (if only to make sure dat dey get de gossip firsthand!) hopefully it go show de politicos - both present and future - jes how to do tings right.

But even before we reach dat stage, I hoping dat when Sunday come and dey an' everybody else making dey kind and loving gestures to 'dear Mother', dey will also stop an' take a good look at de surroundings - de polluted rivers, de garbage dat dump everywhere, de human detritus we callin vagrants and by no means least, de burnt out and still burning hills...

I want to see if we boldface enough to say "Happy Mother's Day, Mother T&T".

Tants....oh gorm.....ah fin' you were a little too harsh on de kite flyin' incident. This was, from all reports, a true true freak accident at an event that is as Trini as goat racing in Tobago. I hate to see anything bad happen to little children and I felt it when I read the story, but I find it very hard to blame anyone but the Fates.
I totally agree with you re quality control and asking where the buck stops when something goes awry, but the kite flying incident and Machel I & II cyah compare......Sorry.

What a vivid description of the Kite event!! Puts me right in the crazy Trini pic and on scene. Keep up your ever living commentary that's keeping us Trinis out here in touch with the madness of home sweet home!!
Wish you a fantastic day! At the beach again? Smile!!

De cricket really got me in tissick. As I write this the 3rd test is playing in Bdos and it is more of the same thing we had in Trinidad. While the batting is not doing too badly, the bowling is disastrous....Tino Best and Lawson are just not ready...and besides Dillon who looks tired, who else is there? Things are not looking good!
