Tantie Talk
Well de bwoys an dem seriously on a roll...dey really coming into dey own
as a team/unit, an' is to hope dat de powers dat be unnerstan' what
goin' on an' give dem de support, an' put systems in place fuh not only dem but
de generations to come. While dey was busy celebrating de 75th anniversary
of de Windies achieving Test status, I couldn' help but wonder if we go be
doing de same celebrating in 25 years time...de way tings shaping up in de
world, we might be celebrating de 20th anniversary of playing World Series
Baseball instead !
Speaking of which...2 months short of 2 years since September 11 2001, an'
we still ent get back we street. Why it is nobody in de Gov't nor de even
in Opposition have de testicular fortitude to bring de ting to a head? If
allyuh done cede de street to dem, why yuh do jes say so an lewwe find
somewhere to move All Saints Church. Odderwise, is dem whey go have to haul
dey so-an-so from dere if it ent secure enough fuh dem. What I cyant really
unnerstan' is how come de place does be safe after 6pm an' on de weekend?
Dey does take all dey sensitive material up Flagstaff every night an' over
de weekend? Or is jes when de Ambassador does be in de place dat dey need
to keep de natives' vehicles away? Any which way yuh look at it is a whole
lotta bull. If anybody wanted to make a point an' attack de place, dey doh
need to have nobody in it, dey jes want to have de place shown to have been
attacked! An' doh try to tell me dat de setta fancy blockade ting dey have
in de driveway could stop anything happening to de place, is like dey really
never walk out de building, cross to de Savannah an' see exactly where de
place really is. Is how dem barrier across Marli St. or de blockades in de
driveway could stop anything coming across from de Savannah? An' what about
de de macco big building north of dem? Dey must be have a setta marines an'
2-3 tanks in inside Sagicor Building, because if dat was to fall on dey
head... But is what you an' me could tell dem or we own setta gutless
wonders? We only have common sense an' seeing what in front we eyes, is to be hoped
dat we dong here 'in the islands' doh ever get so sophisticated dat we jes
start believing all de bull dat we get fed daily.
As allyuh know, Friday is dem people Independence Day, yuh know dey go be
celebrating in style dis year because dey jes bring 'Democracy to Iraq'.
De problem I having is how come since dey dispatch de dictator it only have
a setta crime all over de place an' yuh only reading 'bout how women 'fraid
to walk 'bout de place by deyself especially at night? Worse yet, in de
new era of democracy, women find deyself havin' to do a pull back from de
rights and freedoms dey enjoyed under de dictatorship? Is what, de Iraqi
people get welcome to 'Democracy in the 21st Century' by getting throw back
2-3 hundred years?
De price of progress really high.

Thanks as usual for the interesting reading, Tantie. De Back in Time Kaiso
Fete was the best night out I've had for a while! But on the subject of providing
for local musicians in time of need, I wonder what it would contribute if all
state-funded agencies used local music as the "On Hold" music instead of foreign rock or
pop as some of them do. Don't misunderstand, I enjoy all types of music,
including foreign rock but it grates on my nerves whenever I dial a state agency and hear
foreign music instead of some nice, soft, instrumental pan! I would get a much better
feeling if I knew that a few of my tax dollars were going the way of some local
artiste. That is one place we could start if we are serious about supporting local music!
