Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the things that you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

Tantie Talk

Before I begin, I has to arks allyuh once again to PLEASE get yuh computers check out for virii...and more important, to keep de anti-virus sorfware up-to-date. It ent very hard to set de sorfware to check fuh updates at least once a week, an' fuh allyuh who too cheap or cyant afford to buy none, it have plenty FREE sorfware dat yuh could choose from. Jes arks de nearest computer-jumbie or if yuh done gone past de stage of TechnoPeasant, yuh could search dem out fuh yuhself on Google (http://www.google.com). De reason I arksin dis is because I gettin' lil tired sifting through de 'bounce mails' dat coming to tantie@trinidiary.com because allyuh have virii on yuh machine dat grabbing document from yuh computer an' senning dem to de world wid forged return addresses and virus attached. It nice to get email from Finland and Fiji and Mongolia, but not when de people over dere feel Tantie senning dem virii! An' to top it off, yuh should see some ah de document dat getting broadcast - letters to an' from lawyers, financial statements, customs info an' invoices...not to mention some real kinda PERSONAL tings! Luckily it does only be a few lines dat does get grab, but sometimes dat does be way too much information dat getting expose. Tantie does jes delete de email when mih antivirus sorfwares ketch it, but is wha' go happen when said info drop in de hands of a not-so-decent, not-so-law-abiding citizen? One again, if yuh see anything name Trinidiary coming in yuh mailbox an it have an attachment, DELETE IT onetime, because it ent come from Tantie. Anything else coming from Tantie go be a reply to YOUR email and it go be plain text, no HTML, no attachments.

TRINIDIARY IS ALWAYS PLAIN TEXT WITH NO ATTACHMENTS!!!!!!!!!!!

Now, wid dat outta de way lewwe continue...I was going to use de famous lines ""The time has come," the Walrus said, "To talk of many things:..." as a nice lil lead-in to de Talk, but when I siddong an read de poem again fuh de first time in years, I had was to wonder if Lewis Carroll wasn' a Time Traveller or possible even a better clairvoyant than Nostradamus! I find it fit jes right in de T&T context, especially wid de Local Gov't elections yesterday...an' continuing today dong in Claxton Bay.

The recent TV6 'incident' was astonishing, but can any of us honestly be surprised? As they say in those ads on the Travel Channel.."Texas, it's a whole other country!" Yup, and Dubya was it's Governor. Let's face it, he's signed more death warrants on American citizens than any other contemporaneous governor in the entire United States, so what's he really likely to think about the rest of us 'furriners'? A large irony here is that the country that almost single handedly invented the image management industry is now so determinedly making such a dog's breakfast of their own. But they don't really seem to care, do they? The truth is, they got hurt on 9/11, and so to their minds somebody has to pay, and more importantly, be seen to pay. Never mind they still don't seem to have grasped that terrorism, terrorists, and terrorist finances have been around for a long, long time now for many of their so called 'allies', and that many of those terrorist organisations were heavily funded by supporters right there in the USA; that doesn't matter, is them who get hit this time, so watch out. So, when come time for licks to share, too bad for whoever standing 'round looking idle. Yes, the belt is well soaked in hypocrisy, but that's the mindset right now of the world's only superpower, and we had better get used to it.

The question is, how are we going to deal with it? Will national pride take precedence, or is it that every time someone dares to open their mouth they will shut up and run when they see the camera-person from the embassy looking their way. I feel we have some big issues to contemplate about ourselves on this matter, and not just about them Americans. They know who they are, but do we? Thanks for newsletter, and keep flying the flag for T&T.

(From Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There, 1872)

The sun was shining on the sea,
Shining with all his might:
He did his very best to make
The billows smooth and bright--
And this was odd, because it was
The middle of the night.

The moon was shining sulkily,
Because she thought the sun
Had got no business to be there
After the day was done--
"It's very rude of him," she said,
"To come and spoil the fun!"

The sea was wet as wet could be,
The sands were dry as dry.
You could not see a cloud, because
No cloud was in the sky:
No birds were flying overhead--
There were no birds to fly.

The Walrus and the Carpenter
Were walking close at hand;
They wept like anything to see
Such quantities of sand:
"If this were only cleared away,"
They said, "it would be grand!"

"If seven maids with seven mops
Swept it for half a year.
Do you suppose," the Walrus said,
"That they could get it clear?"
"I doubt it," said the Carpenter,
And shed a bitter tear.

"O Oysters, come and walk with us!"
The Walrus did beseech.
"A pleasant walk, a pleasant talk,
Along the briny beach:
We cannot do with more than four,
To give a hand to each."

The eldest Oyster looked at him,
But never a word he said:
The eldest Oyster winked his eye,
And shook his heavy head--
Meaning to say he did not choose
To leave the oyster-bed.

But four young Oysters hurried up,
All eager for the treat:
Their coats were brushed, their faces washed,
Their shoes were clean and neat--
And this was odd, because, you know,
They hadn't any feet.

Four other Oysters followed them,
And yet another four;
And thick and fast they came at last,
And more, and more, and more--
All hopping through the frothy waves,
And scrambling to the shore.

The Walrus and the Carpenter
Walked on a mile or so,
And then they rested on a rock
Conveniently low:
And all the little Oysters stood
And waited in a row.

"The time has come," the Walrus said,
"To talk of many things:
Of shoes--and ships--and sealing-wax--
Of cabbages--and kings--
And why the sea is boiling hot--
And whether pigs have wings."

"But wait a bit," the Oysters cried,
"Before we have our chat;
For some of us are out of breath,
And all of us are fat!"
"No hurry!" said the Carpenter.
They thanked him much for that.

"A loaf of bread," the Walrus said,
"Is what we chiefly need:
Pepper and vinegar besides
Are very good indeed--
Now if you're ready, Oysters dear,
We can begin to feed."

"But not on us!" the Oysters cried,
Turning a little blue.
"After such kindness, that would be
A dismal thing to do!"
"The night is fine," the Walrus said.
"Do you admire the view?

"It was so kind of you to come!
And you are very nice!"
The Carpenter said nothing but
"Cut us another slice:
I wish you were not quite so deaf--
I've had to ask you twice!"

"It seems a shame," the Walrus said,
"To play them such a trick,
After we've brought them out so far,
And made them trot so quick!"
The Carpenter said nothing but
"The butter's spread too thick!"

"I weep for you," the Walrus said:
"I deeply sympathize."
With sobs and tears he sorted out
Those of the largest size,
Holding his pocket-handkerchief
Before his streaming eyes.

"O Oysters," said the Carpenter,
"You've had a pleasant run!
Shall we be trotting home again?'
But answer came there none--
And this was scarcely odd, because
They'd eaten every one.
