I think that I shall never see a billboard lovely as a tree.
Perhaps, unless the billboards fall, I'll never see a tree at all.

FORECAST: THE PAST
by C7

Black, White and Red
Slaves, Peones and Coolies,
Now we’re educated and sophisticated,
All bright and shiny Trini
Mercenaries…
Thinking we could make a play,
Buy a nice house safe behin’ ah gate
And take a spree in Miami
Well, think again brethren!:
“The circle ends where the circle begins
Back in the mix
With family and friends.” (Hassan/Shah 2001)

Vampire parties, rum and roti,
Garlic and blood
Demanding constitutional principles
While standing in mud
Demons with political savvy
And grease in their hands
They shed their skin
And fly over the land.

And our import-export prostitutes
Riding so high in expensive suits
Well-trained fools on Trojan™ horses
Calling themselves ‘Tiger Entrepreneurs’,
‘Captains of Busyness’, and ‘Bosses’.
Well, all whores make money
But who’s really getting paid?
“The game is played with fire,
And our players are getting played.” (Hassan/Shah 2001)

So think, Trini people, as we roll our hips
When systems crash, who am I
If we hold no chips?
And who’ll be our Partner,
And who our Master?
The past is the forecast
Just more furious and faster…

We stretch necks
And empty pockets pop
To see “Hack-her Homicide: Life on the Screen”
“Doctor Politics” is back with a fresh “Top Cop”
Sequel with a new Heroine
And Coke ad in-between
Mon.-to-Sun. “Pirates of the Caribbean 1” set sail
The soundtrack to “Iere: The People” now on sale.

Coming soon: “Two Gay Priests Say Amen”
Doubled with “101 Days with Disabled Men”.
Nano-cyber-action flicks
Triple-dot.com drama
We pay hard money to catch kicks
And then scream for more, harder
We want it virtual and 3-Dimensional
In colour al-digit,
But when the movie-trip ends,
No matter where we sit
We’ll be back where we began
Together down in the pit….

BACKCHAT: Issue 31

I totally agree with the person who suggested that we shut down Trinidad for a period of three days, (although I believe that the amount of sick days one can take without producing a sick leave certificate from a doctor is only 2 days). No shopping, no liming, no venturing on the outside for any reason. Shut down everything, so that every area in Trinidad becomes a ghost town. This is the only way we can all send a clear and definitive message to these supposed leaders in this country. We want action and we want it now!!!! In a way, we are all to blame for our laid back approach to this situation. It's time to stop waiting for those big-time politicians to do something. We must help ourselves. We all need to contribute in taking a firm stand against violence, kidnappings and all the various forms of criminal activity plaguing this land of ours. If we don't take action now, it's our children and grand children to ketch arse!
//Trini wit' attitude

It sound easy for we up here in de cole to say 'Take back yuh country' etc., but dey forget is who in de fire does feel de heat. And what aoubt that one from Canada or some odder chupid place who say he is an ex Trini? Yuh ever hear of an ex Trind? What wrong wid dese people? Instead of talkin, people should put their money wey dey mout is. Do something constructive like organize a fund raiser and send medicine, school supplies etc to the less fortunate at 'home'. We here in Atlanta formed a group called 'De Parage Side' and dat is exactly whey happenin here. The organisers ... form an association and give fund raisers. So far we have sent 2 sets of supplies and ... de Express does organize it once it gets home. Toys went dong last Christmas for de people in Laventille, food went down earlier this year, (clothes too) and we had a book drive this month. Fete is dis weekend so we could get de money to buy more 'new' tings and ship de end of de month. If more ah we do dis sort of ting, maybe - just maybe - all dis kidnappin etc will die a natural death.
//Proud Trini in Hotlanta

In the US of A, The people rise up to the occasion when issues are incorrect, protest, vote, write their congressman and all. In Trinidad & Tobago, the attitude is, it does not affect me, so "why bother"? What an attitude?? Whimps? or I do not care? Crime is rampant in the island, wanton waste of lives. What has the Government done, the Minister of National Security? Zippo. So sad, too bad Trinidad. The Humming Bird has now gone.
//California, USA

Dey allowing kidnappers BAIL?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! What madness is this? If this is as a result of the opposition's inaction in Parliment on helping to pass the relevant crime bill(s), I hope my people open their eyes! So Reginald Gibson - a former cop - is granted $200k bail and has to check in with the Besson St Police Station everyday between 1pm - 5pm. I guess between 8am and lunch time, he could kidnap some more teens and make some more money to make back his bail $$$$. Ah too shame!
