Tantie Talk

Yuh Tants tryin' hard in dis 'season of goodwill' not to dwell on de so very many negative tings dat about, in de vain hope of being able to spend some 'quality time' wid friends an' family... but yuh know dat ent wukkin' at all. It reach a stage dat I jes doh want to see a newspaper or hear de news no more, is so much murder an' bloodshed pourin' outta dem. When mankind suppose to be concern wid de price of paint, an' if dey could afford to have ham, turkey AND a pork leg dis year, is because dey peepin' out dey window every time dey hear a noise outside...an' dat is broad daylight, when night come dey ent puttin' dey head nowhere near a window or door if someting goin' on in de road.

So, we windin' dong a nex year an' guess what? Plus ca change...big hairy suprise. Is bad enough when is we lil pissin' tail politicos here playin' deyself  in dis two by ah quarter country we callin' home, but when yuh see de 'big bwoys' start to get on, yuh have to take dem damn serious, because dem doh see dey own setta trees in dey backyard dat have plenty rot, dem could only see de forest in de rest of de world, especially all dem small countries like we own, an' want to dictate to we exactly how to manage we trees, an' who we could sell timber to. If Dubya an' de rest of he gang in Washington ent learn dey lesson yet from Afghanistan & Iraq, is nuttin go change dem...if God Heself come an' tell Dubya he wrong I sure he go tell Him is Allah dat bringing undue influence to bear an' He shouldn' take on. Why it is dey cyant leave people to demselves? Is now 44 years dey trying all how to dislodge Castro in Cuba, de rest of de world done forgive, forget an' achieve 'closure', so is why President number 10 (who ent exactly de brightest & best of de lot) feel he go be different from all de ones before him, including he own fadder? Ok, Cuba & Castro stick in dey craw, dat is dem cross to bear...why it is dey want to put pressure on pissin' tail T&T an' de rest of de Caribbean because we have Cuban doctors here  helpin' save lives? I jes blasted vex, yuh want T&T an' de Caribbean to dance to yuh tune? Well then why de kiss-mih-amen yuh doh jes invade we, take over de place an' yuh ent  go have to worry 'bout wastin' yuh precious time negotiating wid small-fry when yuh have de rest of de world to worry about? It shouldn' take too long according to yuh planners, but remember de last time in Grenada allyuh was suppose to be starting "mopping up operations" by de end of de first day an' some weeks later yuh was still  dere.

All I sayin' Mr. Small Island Pride an' Mr. Dubya, is jes live an' let live...before yuh want to go chargin' around de globe playin' World Police make sure yuh own house in order...why it is allyuh doh want to release information pertaining to September  11th 2001 to de Congressional Inquiry dat investigating it? What exactly is/was de connection(s) business an' otherwise, between de Bush an' de bin Laden families? De whole US cabinet seem to be extraordinarily well 'lubed' as it were, with folks who have serious connections to de petroleum industry...ermmm, allyuh doh feel de term "conflict of interest" might be applicable?

An' most important of all when yuh want to play police, jes remember it ent YOUR  world, it belong to ALL nations on dis planet and we de rest of de world did agree (as allyuh did too) by consensus to abide by a setta rules. So stop playin' de spoil chile bully an' want to vex when tings doh go your way. We de citizens of de world agreed to have de International Criminal Court, not de "All Other Nations but America Criminal Court", so stop dis damn nonsense 'bout playin' de heavy an' givin' blatantly unveiled threats to those who yuh feel yuh could bully. Doh tell we nuttin' 'bout human rights abuses in Cuba unless yuh include what happening in Guantanamo Bay, stop trading wid all who yuh feel not going dong your road, dancin' to your tune... as a matter of fact jes lock up yuh country an' do let NONE ah we in at all, we de rest of de world go manage as best we could...it might turn out to be de best ting allyuh do fuh de world in de last couple hundred years.

BACKCHAT: Issue 46

Hi tants girl,
Ah was very proud wid de backchat issue 46. It did do meh heart proud to read dat trinis aint ashamed of we dialect. As I always say " dere is a time and place fuh everyting", and most ah we know when to speak de queen's English and when not to. Keep up de good wuks, I love it too bad. Enjoy the Xmas holidays!!
//USA

... While I agree with the remarks of 'hotmail user' about your clever juxtaposition of the "backchats" concerning the cons and pros of using "Trini English", and appreciate her/his appreciation for my explanation of the beauty of our dialect, I think the point could have been made without descending to gratuitous scatology. Oh s..t! now s/he might tink' dat I mus be "anal retentive" too! Merde!" ('merde' is the French word for excrement and when dey real vex French Canadians does say "S..t la mArde!")
... Yuh read Terry Joseph poem titled "A crime rhyme" in de Express Opinion section on
November 28, 2003? It so good! De boy cover de whole spectrum of de malice in blunderland wey goin' orn in de country. No only did he do it wid clever rhymes; he incorporate international events, recent AND not-so-recent T&T crime history and lore, and political commentary. We see that the older generation was also brainwashed by American culture (the Western movie genre) just as the youths nowadays are, though perhaps to a much greater degree. He use language rangin' from literary (the Latin expressions and words like 'joust' and 'entreat') to everyday and colloquial expressions. It have jus' enough alliteration. He din' miss he chance to mention de plague of piracy an' de horrors people does get wid TSTT..an' ah see how tuh spell "kn". Ah tell him dey should use dat poem in Social Science and English Language classes in de schools an' dem.
Ah goin' an' try to start tuh feel Christmassy. Play some Christmas music and get de tree started. Dis white Christmas business was nevah my glass ah punchacreme!

Loved Your commentary. While we still see so much going wrong, why do we still refuse to change.
