The means by which we live have outdistanced the ends for which we live. Our scientific power has outrun our spiritual power. We have guided missiles and misguided men.

So, Dubya an' de good ole boys in D.C. feelin' good...dey ketch Saddam...
Contrary to what dey might feel, de whole world did also breathe a collective sigh of relief when de news did break. Saddam was never no angel an' de world did always know dat...especially dem folks who was helpin' him in de practice of his particular brand of 'black arts' by supplying him wid arms, ammunition an' most of all Casting of Blind Eyes whilst he practiced said arts.

OK, so after all de prancin' an' paradin' an' de hypocratic oaths an' utterances of said Dubious Doctors of Duplicity (AKA Spin Doctors), we come to de real $64 Billion Question...is what yuh go do wid him? Dubya & Co now have dey collective bollocks firmly in a holding device because dey now have to prove to de world (if not demselves as Americans) dat dey better than him an' doh stage no kinda Kangaroo Court ting a la Nuremberg. Of course de ideal ting is for de Iraqi people to have a trial in dey own country wid dey own judicial system, dat would bring to light all what did happen when Saddam was in power...but dat have some major problems, since de Coalition of The Willing did all but destroy de little dat was left of 'civilised' life, an' society as a whole in Iraq. Dey have no idea who to 'put' to run de place because every last body dey consider only  know how to do tings de Iraqi strongarm way, an' not de 'democratic idealistic' (idyllic?) way dat Washington want. Ironically de one solution dat go assuage ALL sides no matter where dey sittin', is de one dat Dubya & Co doh want to have nuttin' to do wid: The International Criminal Court. Is de exact, very same reason why Robbie did call fuh de establishment of de Court in de first place, an' de Good Ole Boys doh want nuttin' to do wid it eef in case one ah dey underlings get ketch doin' wrong. Dubya, do yuhself an' de Citizens of de USA a huge favour...drop de big bad act an' join de rest of de world in trying to live peaceably an' peacefully wid each other never mind we differences in culture. Yuh have de perfect opportunity to back outta de corner yuh paint yuhself in; yuh didn' wait fuh world sanction when yuh went after Saddam but when after de fact yuh gettin' more casualties than yuh did bargain for yuh suddenly want we to help. If yuh want to join in de 'game' wid de rest of de world, yuh have to play be de rules everybody agree to...if not, go yuh own way an' doh make a fuss 'bout it. But yuh cyant decide to join de people game an' change de rules to suit yuhself...de las' time it had people doin' dat dey didn' have no allegiance to anyting except to money, dey used to call demselves 'Privateers' an' dey flag was de notorious Skull & Crossbones.

An' on dat note, yuh wouldn' believe what yuh does find if yuh do a search on
Google fuh "George W. Bush" +"Roy Austin" ...it does really make yuh wonder oui.

In spite of all the negatives in Trinidad, we still have much to be thankful for. We are multicultural/religious, and we tolerate, respect and even participate in each others festivals. Here's a news clip from the US, that shows us how much we have to be thankful for. Give thanks, and best wishes to all.
"The Colorado ACLU is threatening to sue the Elbert County Charter School if the principal refuses to censor Christmas for the school's children. On November 10, 2003 the Colorado ACLU, in a letter joined by the Anti-Defamation League, alleges that, 'Jewish students no longer feel safe or welcome at the Elbert County Charter School.'
The letter demands that Principal Les Gray censor Christmas, and the school 'must take immediate steps to comply with the constitutional separation of church and state.' Barry Arrington, the school's attorney, an ally of the Alliance Defense Fund, said this week that the 'ACLU's suggestion is outrageous and inflammatory. These scarcely-veiled charges of anti-Semitism hurt the innocent and cheapen the painful experiences of those who suffer real bias.' The ACLU demanded the school remove any reference to Christmas from their holiday program.

Is me here. Amen! May it be so! Amen. Is too bad dem Yankee big boys don read this paper. But who knows, with their extensive spy system, they may just do so. By the way, I didn't see the Terry Joseph rhyme creation. You think you could arrange a reprint at some time in the New Year, for we who 'from foreign'. Tanks doux doux. Just in case I get cutoff technologically. Here's wishing you a safe Healthy and happy
Season with lots of ham, pastelles, sorrel and ponche de crema. See ya in 2004.

My father was Swiss and my mom is a Trini and I was born in Venezuela, and I spent part of my life in Trinidad from age 2 to 9 then went to Switzerland. I have a bunch of family in Trinidad and none in Switzerland or Venezuela ... they all dead. I  haven't beenpracticing de dialect much and always enjoy reading your comments since it keeps me in touch with my Mother-roots. Since I'm such a cocktail, I would say dat
in Spirit my roots stay with The Lord, in Soul I'm a Trini, In mind multicultural though Brit-Swiss.To de island man or woman in Switzerland I would say: I speak German, Swiss German, French, Italian, Spanish, English and Trini too. Having spent most of my life in Switzerland I would agree that the Swiss-Germans are proud of their dialect, but de folks from de french speakin parts are resentfull towards de "GERMANIX" ting as a rule. Dis is a residue from both World War I and II. De Swiss-Germans like to learn French and/or Italian. So do fool yaself. De pride is not equally shared from region to region an it is not reciprocal, believe me ...I know my cattle. Dis being said ... Educated Trinis should be proud to speak de Queens language, it is part of de history ... but dey should be equally proud to speak "Trini" because there is even more history in dat, an since people from Trinidad are like a unique kaleidoscope because of de colorful history/past, and that language is not just a way of communicating, but before all, a way of feeling, thinking, living, loving, etc...dey should remember and re-listen to de words in the national anthem. Trinidad was first Spanish, then Dutch, then French before becoming a British colony. Streams from all those cultures, as well as Chinese, East Indian, Syrian, Moroccan, Greek ... name it - all meet in a great river called "Trinidad". As long as WE Island People can find the way to dwell on what we have in common rather than our diffrences, dat river will continue flowing. I haven't set foot in Trinidad since 1979, but I will say this: No big ting patna, I aint need dat to continue Being, cause Trinidad does live in me with all de 'special' it carries. And over de years I travelled de world, I realized that any where I went and bounced into a "West Indian" ... De Trinidadian was always recognised for de particular form of speech, de way he carry himself, de way he behave ... in short ... de way he honours dat river dat flows between de three peaks that make our Island so particular, but most of all because de river flows within. Now I geting advanced in age and do have no Trinidad Passeport, but if I had, I would bring me river back home an let it flow there so dat dis Island can get it act together. De first step is for all Trinis to recognise what great roots we have an what greatness remains in a slumber. We could dwell on what we have in common instead of each "different" ethnic group pulling de rope his way by preachin de differences. Then the only rope left would be de one we pull on together. Now if de Swiss could be what dey are through some "established agreement" 705 years old, we have a common bond dat is expressed each year through de Trini Carnival which is unique. (De brazilians can eat their hat).
Trinidad is de Trinis home an is up to dem to clean de Yard an de House
... With love for Trinidad an all Trinis of good will.

I got so mad when I read about USA trying to tell us how we can't use Cuban doctors. Who the Hell do they think they are. I hope Manning tells them where to go about this and about the International Court. However, just supposing Bush threatens us with loss of the USA market for our famous gas? What then? Keep up the great work.
