TANTIE TALK - Tuesday 02 January 2007 Volume 8 Issue 01

Right, not even one ah allyuh sen a likkle email to ask how ah was doing when allyuh ent see de ting reach in yuh mailbox on ah Tuesday morning like normal.

Is arrite! Doh bodder allyuh head. I arrite. I go survive. I coulda get kidnap fuh all dat allyuh know and dem yuteman holing mih fuh two case ah Malta bottle.

Doh dig no horrors, is just mamaguy ah mamaguying allyuh.

Well to tell yuh de trute I get tie up wid all dis setta weekend holiday and is only when I tun round dat I realise dat like I missing a day and is Tuesday night and de ting ent gorn to allyuh yet.

Is shame, ah shame in trute. Is not like ah could even blame de grog at de Old Year's party dat Marjorie did trow, because ah couldn't even mek de midnight self.

Like we all getting old in trute, because so much ah people tell me dat dey choose to stay home and keep dey tail quiet and spend it wid family and friends instead ah spending all de money on dem big fete it had in all dem hotel and ting.

All dat being said dey probably go be spending de same money on corstume any day now. because it look like de Canival start areddi. Doh mind dat we still ent know where de ting go get stage, but say wha, is not like we really need to have stage and ting to free up we self. In fact dis might be de best year on de road in a long time fuh de masqueraders.

All dem show in de Savannah does be getting smaller and smaller crowd every year, so it might be a real blessing in disguise if dem show ent have de Grand Stand again.

De only problem is de Panorama, because unless dem boy real wuk fast I ent sure if Skinner Park go be ready in time, and dey might have to use de Brian Lara Stadium, well eef dey could find it.

De problem we jes cyar seem to deal wid is to make up we mind what we want de Carnival to be. If we want it to be 'we party' den we have to let it get back in de road and de panyard. If we want to do a kinda Rio sumting, den we has to get serious and build a proper place and treat de patrons and de performers wid respect.

And it ent have a lotta respect going arong in de Carnival fuh a long long time.

Anyways ah looking at de calendar and like dis is a quiet week, allyuh ressing off from de Christmas and getting ready for de Carnival. I going and tek a bush bath and get ready for dis 2007 which looking to be a busy year in Trinidad and Tobago already. Go and check de web calendar at http://www.trinidiary.com and look over de nex twelve months to see how much stuff already setup and more to come once all dem fete date nail dong!

Once again please excuse mih fuh de lateness dis week.

BACKCHAT: Issue 52: Vol 7

Salut ma Tante!
I hope that you had a smashing Christmas and as you look forward to a Prosperous New Year I will look for your weekly rants. It is amazing what tiny things get under your skin but then you would not be upset if the snowfall was late.Ours arrived this morning on Boxing Day -so better late than never. But the Pastelles were great as were the Poncha Crema and Santa was extremely generous to the entire family even the pets got great stocking stuffers.
I keep abreast of the trini vernacular by reading your column otherwise I would lose it.The Quebecois have a similar patois called Joual which I have to translate when my tante from Paris comes to visit-it is similar to haitian creole but never written anywhere.A compilation of Canadian french is being done by a program called C'est la vie and can be found on line at www.cbc.ca.
Is the BWIA airline now a thing of the past? Pan Instruction is done in many schools in Canada so it will survive and flourish .
VIVE TnT and Trinis worldwide.Joyeuses Fetes!
