TANTIE TALK - Tuesday 24 April 2007 Volume 8 Issue 17

Bacchanal in de town...de preacher daughter get 'ketch' in slackness an' is so everybody runnin' dey mout on she. Poor chile, is to be hope she come outta de mess a stronger an' wiser human being. She an' all nearly run out Lara again - from de news dis time, is fus de story was makin' de rounds quick quick.

But after all de initial shock an' outrage guess what? Most Trini gone back to dey same ole same ole routine an' waitin' fuh de nex time dey could get chance to wine up like Akon on some thoughtless dodo. If dey had Hypocrite Games, Trini would be rackin' up medal an' world record free sheet.
Someting jes occur to me...in all de ruckshun about Akon an' de preacher daughter, I doh recall hearin' nuttin' from dem nex setta pastor/preacher who did want to ban Elton John from Tobago. It all de more surprisin' when yuh realise dat Akon (bein' from Senegal even though he an' he siblings born in de US) say as a muslim he believe in polygamy an' claimin' to have at least 3 wives!

De good Lord mus be wukkin' overtime fieldin' prayers of gratitude from de politrickians an' dem, de timin' so sweet wid elections in de air. De gov't pavin' road an' runnin' water pipe like mad, an' de opposition(s) jumpin' on de smelter/crime/LNG/whatever cause_of_de_week bandwagon jes so dey doh get leave back at de startin' gate. If only dey would open dey eyes an' really see what ailin' de country tings would improve dramatically. Dey really was bong to spend all dat money on de PM residence? OK so maybe de place did need to get fixup, but yuh mean to say dey couldn' build de fancy design in stages like how dey does build house in de country? Is why we always have to go fuh de most expensive (an' not necessarily de best) of everyting?

We spend umpteen millions on 3 blimps an' endup wid one, but Venezuela buyin' 3 from South Korea dat costin' US$465,000 each an' dey ent have to pay nobody to sit in dem whole day either, because dey remote control. Is how much we did endup spendin' on de blimps, somewhere in de region of TT$40million or about US$6million...hmmm, dat suggest to me we coulda get at least 10 if not 12 blimp from South Korea an' coulda be coverin' de whole country instead of givin' de selfsame folks dey suppose to be watchin' notice not only every time dat de one an' only blimp gettin' launch but which direction it headin'!

One setta money spend on desalination plant, but is like nobody did think dat dey woulda need to spend none on maintenance so of course it break down an' South bawlin' fuh water. CWC 2007 come an' nearly done, an Lara done playin' but dey still ent finish buildin' de Brian Lara Tsunami Shelter in Tarouba...even Guyana wid de near non-stop rain did get dey stadium up an'
runnin'.

So, is where we goin' from here? Seein as how we importin' from construction workers to doctors an' nurses, is why we doh jes import some politicians fuh de nex setta elections? No matter what country we get dem from, de cyant be less efficient an' ignorant of we needs than de ones we been puttin' up wid fuh de las' 40+ years!

BACKCHAT: Issue 16

I went to one of the functions UWI hosted to honour Sir Vidia Naipaul and thoroughly enjoyed it. Please allow me to commend the principal of the St.
Augustine Campus for his great work. But Tants, for all that Sir Vidia has written to show us how politriks continue to mess up our society, we can't seem to be able to find a way to change things. Your TantieTalk with respect to the fiasco that is West Indian cricket today reflects this.

I am quite interested in hearing from you what you think we can do to bring about a change in the way we think and behave, so that we can break out of this self defeating cycle

I wish that I could say I understand the thread of this story but unfortunately I have no idea except to say that it sounds like a grand scam was perpetrated on the citizenry of TnT. I hope that the folks have learnt something from all this. Up here we are having a false Spring with more snow and storms than one would expect in Spring but hopefully some warmer temperatures will come by soon so that we can prepare our gardens.
I hope that the next posting will be easier to follow.
