TANTIE TALK - Tuesday 24 July 2007 Volume 8 Issue 30

Yuh know yuh does find inspiration in all kinda ting sometimes. Is de tings dat does be far away dat does seem to make so much sense close to home.

I ent know how I get ketch in dis ting but is days now dat I stick in front de TV watching de Tour de France. I ent know how dem fellas does be doing wha dey doing. It hard enough fuh me to pump up de tyres on mih
Raleigh bike and dem fellas climnbing over mountain like dey is Hannibal on he elephants!

Weepah! Dat is man tonnez! I watching Vinakourov like he driking straigh pacro in dem bottle because dat man standing up straight on de bike and watching a mountain in front ah he and he steupsing at it. And doh feel dat de mountain ent hearing him.

And is not jes he, is all de ressa dem like Rasmussen and de Cancellara and even de Yankee boys who showing how dey does put de pedal pon de real metal!

But is only when yuh watch de whole ting yuh does relaise dat it ent jes
ah setta ironman dat pedaling hard, is a real example of how people does wuk togedder when dey have to fuh de common good.

Which is why I feel we need to have dem fellas come and talk to we politrickians at some point to explain how to run tings.

Eeef yuh study de ting yuh does come to realise dat de battle on de cycle race does only happen in de last few hundred metres. All de kilos dat dem riding up and down de mountains dem boys all have to co-operate wid each udder or none ah dem go reach de Finish Line.

Dey does all take dey turn leading de pack and putting in de hard work to keep de whole Peloton going, dey does share dey food and water, and look out for each other when it have dangerous conditions.

Right now when yuh look at de last day dey reach up in de Basque region and de crowd only inches away from de cyclists and all de crowd urging all de cyclists to do dey best even eef dey ent from de crowd country.

Clearly it have lessons fuh we side to learn. Somehow we politrickians jes cyar let go of de idea of Opposition have to oppose. Dey ent learn de lesson dat is de Nation dat dey dere to work for, so when de Elections done and de fete finish is to sit dong and do de wuk, not just to complain and guff up and not be dey to mek de odder side look good.

We heading into de final straight dis year and all kinda team forming, but none ah dem seem to understand what to do after de Election done.
Dem Tour de France boys know full well how to wuk de ting. De last kilometre is everyman fuh heself, but once de sprint done, is back to work as a team, all manjack!

And speaking of manJack - yuh ent see who starring in de U-20 World Cup Final? Not we Jack self? Number two in de world, and who it is say dat de Educational system doh wuk?

Ah gorn back to de Tour yes, but ah have to leave yuh wid a little question about we boys who does Protect and Serve..dey buss down de door in de brothel in Marabella, and cart away a bag ah ladies. Is how much man de hold....? Ah gorn! Tour de France highlights on TV now....

BACKCHAT: Volume 008  Issue 29

Tantie,

Sorry to disappoint you but "free range" ent very free!

"Free-Range" Broiler Chickens

Birds raised for meat ("broilers") may be considered "free-range" if they have U.S. Department of Agriculture-certified access to the outdoors. No other criteria-environmental quality, the size of the outdoor area, the number of birds confined in a single shed, or the indoor or outdoor space allotted per animal-are considered in applying the label. As with "free-range" laying hens, many "free-range" broilers live in a facility with only one small opening at the end of a large shed, permitting only a few birds to go outside at any given time.

Even Richard Lobb, spokesperson for the National Chicken Council admits, "Even in a free-range type of style of production, you're basically going to find most of them inside the grow out facility.."(2)

According to The Washington Post Magazine, in the case of birds, the term "free-range" "doesn't really tell you anything about the [animal's].quality of life, nor does it even assure that the animal actually goes outdoors."(3)

Tantie,

I have to say "ah luv dis one"!

We do need more people with backbone in this country. People not standing up at all for the things that affect us everyday. Maybe is fall out from the KFC generation?!?! Maybe KFC should have a yardie on the menu!

Salut ma Tante!
I agree with you completely on the lack of taste no matter how you cook it -the battery chicken as opposed to free range old-fashioned poulet.I know where to get free range chicken and I am definitely going to make the trip uptown to buy one so that I can re-acquaint my taste buds with some trini-style stewed chicken.
This is the construction holiday when Quebeckers take off to the Excited States of Amnesia for two weeks of overpriced and mostly fried foods which will choke their arteries to the max and make their skin look like barbecued chicken.
I shall revert to my fruit plate of melon, cottage cheese and coleslaw with some Aunt May's Bajan pepper sauce on the side.Breakfast will be some spicy Arepas with Sorrel chutney or mango chutney washed down with some Jamaican Ginger Beer.
All this keeps my humour in attack mode without the addition of Polonium 10 a la Vlad Putin.
Amakosi!(Zulu -style greeting)

Hi Tants,
I used to wonder why each time I go back home to visit, everybody look so dam huge. Now I know it is all the steroid chicken they eat! Cancer and all. Just what is the 'Consumer Protection' doing? Ministry of Health? Doesn't anyone care? Not even the consumer themselves?
I used to get some baby chickens one year before and let them run around until Christmas time. I had very good healthy yardies for Christmas and New year too! Come on Trinis wake up! There is good healthy business out there.
Greetings
