I did thought I was havin' flashbacks to World Cup 2006 is so much
RED I seein' all over de place dese days...from beret an' bandana
through all kinda shirt an' pants not to mention de shoes an'
toenails is like de paint factory an' dem suddenly realise dey have
too much red in stock an' was givin' away free sheet!
It come jes like carnival...yuh cyant tell one band from de nex'
because dey all lookin' de same.. Maybe is a good ting, because de
way vitriol, invective an' vituperation does be rollin' out
politrikian's mouths any time dey on a platform, is best de
supporters cyant be sure if de setta red dat dey seein' belong to
dem or de nex' side(s) jes in case dey might be tempted to 'add'
some more red.
What I doh unnerstan' is why it is de politrikians demselves cyant
see dat wid or widout de red clothes on we all be de same people who
"make de same trip, on de same ship"? Every last person in T&T have
at least one ancestor who was either slave or indentured laborer an'
plenty have both.
Is why dey seein' benefit in creatin' dissent an' distrust instead
of encouragin' people to work together for de benefit of all?
Yes, dey call dem folks dat not in government de opposition, but dat
doh mean dey HAVE to oppose EVERYTHING de ones in government say an'
do.
I feel is time fuh dem politrikians to park dey ego by de gate an'
sit dong an' fuh once try an' lissen to what de nex' setta people
sayin'...an' if dey ent sure it go wuk, dey ent have to look no
further than de 'baby' of US politics Barack Obama. Is long time he
wukkkin' wid Republican when it go benefit de people who send him to
Washington to represent dem.
Now yuh know yuh have to try damn hard to teach old dog (especially
de politrikial kind) new tricks, so I wouldn' even want to waste
time to suggest dat Bas or Patos consider cosyin' up together (an'
anyways de both of dem have bad heart so dat kinda posturin' an'
grinnin' an' skinnin' dey teeth go be a severe strain) but Dooks,
even though he ent exactly no Johnny Come Lately, been outta de pure
political arena long enough dat he ent hard head like dem nex two
an' should be able to see competence an' capability even if it not
in he team.
I feel sure dat if instead of jes joinin' in de vilification (an'
paintin' everybody who not on dey team wid de same brush) de CoP
give even faint praise where it due an' more importantly break out
of de same ole mould dat all politrikians seem to be cast from an'
let de people know dat de representatives dey choose go be just dat
- representatives of de people an' not babblin' buffoons who could
only toe de party line - dey go find de good citizens of T&T willin'
to give dem more than jes a couple seats in de Parliment.
We need more people like Hulsie Bhaggan who go follow dey conscience
widout de threat of victimisation...dat is what de ting dey call
democracy is all about, agreein' to disagree even when is somebody
in yuh own party.
Allyuh enjoy yuh Republic Day an' try yuh best to stay safe on de
roads.

BACKCHAT: Issue 037
Tantie,
Well, let's just say that I am really disappointed in you. Of all
the things you could have spoken about in this issue, you chose the
MTV Awards. Are you not aware that Sunday gone had one of the
biggest political rallies that this country has ever seen? I find it
strange that you did not see it fit to report that this was not a
rally of race, class or position. People from all over, all ages,
all beliefs, all nationalities, all rallying together in the hopes
that we can bring T&T back from the darkness that is plaguing our
precious land. It's not about politics...it's about a better
tomorrow...a future for our children, for ourselves to enjoy. Why
did you not say a peep about the sea of red? Why did you not talk
about the support shown for COP?
Hmm...misplaced priorities maybe...or a different agenda perhaps?
