TANTIE TALK - Tuesday 11 December 2007 Volume 8 Issue 50

Well I ent know jes how else to describe it, but is like mih fingers an' brain did have 'laryngitis' is so hard it was to start dis Talk! It was never easy tryin' to come up wid someting different each an' every week, but it does worse as yuh get 'younger'...an' allyuh self ent helpin' yuh Tants wid de deafenin' silence I does be gettin' sometimes.

So de earth did quake an' Trini was frighten no tail, but as is usually de case we long overs dat...earthquake? Nuttin' could be further from we mind as de gearin' up fuh fete start. De way Trini 'fraid hurricane more than earthquake yuh would swear is really Dominica or St. Lucia we livin. What we doh realise is dat if we did really get a 7 in T&T it wouldn' have much left standin' alomg de Eastern Main Rd. De day a macco big earthquake hit we, de fault line dat runnin' along de bottom of de Northern Range go take out plenty buildings from Carenage to Grande, an' everybody go want to know how it happen.

De amount of illegal an' unsafe buildings dat yuh seein' all over dis place (an' not only de squatters in de hills) is a wonder dey ent come crashin' dong every time it rain an' a lil breeze blow. But we want to have high speed train too...is who goin' to maintain de tracks? Is how many Police, an' all kinda Gov't department vehicles yuh see gettin' auction off mainly because dey didn' get proper maintenance? Is how come private people could buy a bus from PTSC an' able to have it roadworthy?

I jes hopin' dat when de 'new' Parliament start de go actually try to see about de nation's business instead of maccoin' each other's business. We seriously need dem to pass de breathalyser legislation especially wid dis short Carnival season...is straight from Christmas to Ash Wednesday dat people go be drivin' under de influence, but until we have legislation in place to stop dem even openin' dey car door de carnage go continue.

When yuh realise dat road fatalities ent all dat far behind de murder toll, yuh know tings ent good. Shape up people, leave yuh car home an' take taxi or have a designated driver when yuh want to lime hearty...even if yuh 'know' yuh could handle yuhself, yuh jes doh know what de nex driver capable of.

BACKCHAT:  Issue 049

Salut ma Tante!
We have just had our first major snowstorm of the winter. It was big enough to close all the schools and cause the City to send out 1000 municipal workers to clear away most of the white stuff. This will be a bonus for the Ski Hills up north and great fun for the kids to toboggan down the hills and other improvised ski runs. After lunch there was a sound of my doorbell and two schoolkids asking me in both official languages if I wanted my stairs cleared of snow.Apparently the little entrepreneurs wanted to charge me $5.00 for clearing 4 stairs.I declined and two hours later the City did the job.

This illustrates how SNOW brings out the entrepreneurship in even the very young. Perhaps there is something at your end that would have the same effect on the local layabouts? Have a pleasant holiday season (Hanukkah,Christmas and New Year and Kwanzaa for those who follow it!
Amakosi!
